How To Make The Switch To Natural Deodorant
As the public learns about the dangers of standard deodorants, more and more people are making an educated switch to natural deodorants. While many have tried in the past, the general consensus was that they “don’t work.” There’s a very evident process that comes with changing from aluminum based deodorants. It’s a REAL detox. And it’s a detox that could potentially save your life! I’m not talking about that vegetable soup diet that you went on for a week or the cayenne pepper water detox. This is one that will clear out one of the most absorbent glands in your body, your lymph glads!
How misinformed are we, that the world believes that it’s healthy to NOT sweat? Perspiring is the bodies natural way of detoxing, cleansing, and pushing out toxins. Decades of aluminum based deodorant fill the body with heavy metals, toxic chemicals, and artificial dyes and perfumes. Sweating is a natural result of cleansing but it doesn’t mean you will stink. With the right product, you will be able to cleanse the body with little to no odor.
What to expect – When Switching to Natural Deodorant
1.) You will push out toxins – If you’re like me, you’ve use aluminum based deodorants for several decades. Knowing that, there may be excess sweating as your body takes a deep sigh of relief and begins to release toxins out of your glands, and pores. There could be extra odor that comes with this phase.
2.) You may have to apply natural deodorant more then once a day – Have faith in the process during this short period and carry an extra supply in your bag or purse. It’s not the end of the world and it is temporary.
3.) The lymph glands may swell, or become sensitive – It’s not uncommon to have some swelling and even a little bit of pain during this process. Hang in there, it’s worth it!
How To Make The Switch As Easy As Possible
1.) Detox You Arm Pits – Yes, you read that correctly, a simple at home recipe can help you pull the toxins from your system quicker to make the detox process faster! Here’s the recipe from Fit Tip Daily.
2.) Drink A LOT Of Water – As with any detoxing phase, drinking water will help you to flush the toxins out of your system faster.
3.) Avoid Strong Smelling Foods For The First Week – This includes things such as garlic, onions, and curry.
4.) Avoid Excessive Amounts Of Alcohol and Tobacco – These can slow down the detoxing process since your body has to compete with other substances.
5.) Use Arm Pit Pads (if you’re worried) – These are a real thing! They are used by actors and actresses on set while they are under the hot lights of filming. They can easily be purchased on Amazon for a minimal cost and give you a little extra insurance while you make the switch!
6.) Wear Clothes That Breathe – Fabrics such as linen and cotton are great choices. Not so great choices are fabrics that are more “plastic” in nature such as rayon, nylon, and combinations of these types of fabrics.
7.) Exfoliate Your Underarms – Exfoliating your arm pits on a daily bases helps to rid your body of stubborn skin cells that may be trapping bacteria, and residual toxins from your body.
It’s Worth It!
While the tips from above may sound daunting, they are well worth the effort.
Chemicals and additives in conventional deodorants.
Aluminum (which has been liked to Alzheimer’s)
Phthalates (may cause cancer)
Propylene Glycol
Formaldehyde1
Parabens (may cause cancer)
Antibacterial substances (which can affect the immune system)
Pit Facts: Shaving your under arms actually makes your skin even more permeable. Meaning, that by removing the hair and a layer of skin with it, you are allowing even more toxins to enter your body. Since the underarms are filled with lymph nodes, this sensitive area can act as a magnet for drawing chemicals and metals into the body (source).
Detoxing Can Actually DECREASE Odor Over Time
It can also help your body restore the immune system, decreasing your chances for breast cancer, and fight other common diseases linked to the chemicals and heavy metals in the deodorants themselves.
Side Note: I originally started the natural deodorant switch because I wanted to reduce water weight in my arms. I had read about the lymph glands of the under arms getting backed up and causing issues with water retention in the upper body. I’m happy to report that I was right! I lost a significant amount of water weight in my arms and have been able to keep it away since changing to natural deodorant.
Don’t let this information scare you. This is one of the easiest and most beneficial things you can do for you body. Using the right products can also make this process as “painless” as possible. I created Everyday Essence Natural Deodorant with all of these issues in mind. Ingrediants such as clay and charcoal were added (in just the right amounts), to help the consumer detox on a daily basis while ridding themselves excess odor. Natural starches such as arrow root pull moisture from the body to keep you drier without the use of talc.
